Our Story 🏃‍♂️

Kidlington Running and Athletic Club was founded in 1983, at a time when road running was just beginning to take off in popularity. What started as a small group of enthusiastic runners has grown into the thriving, welcoming club you see today.

From humble beginnings
The club first met at Exeter Hall in the heart of Kidlington, before moving to Gosford Hill Sports Centre as membership grew. As the club developed, so did its ambitions — leading to an exciting new chapter in the late 1990s.

A home built for sport and community
Together with Gosford All Blacks Rugby Club and Kidlington Cricket Club, we became founding members of Stratfield Brake Recreation Ground. Built with significant lottery funding, this 20-acre site gave the club a permanent home designed for sport, community, and growth.

Room to run, space to explore
What makes our location truly special is what lies beyond the pitches. Adjacent land adds another 20 acres of woodland, nature reserve, and scenic paths — perfect for varied and enjoyable running routes.

And since the addition of a footbridge in 2006, runners have been able to head straight over the Oxford–Birmingham Canal and out into the open countryside — turning every run into an opportunity for adventure.

Still moving forward
From its early days to now, the club has always been about more than just running — it’s about community, progress, and enjoying the journey together.
