The Club has organised the Mota-vation Summer Road Race Series since the late 1980s, a series of five road races, each approximately four miles, held monthly at various venues in Oxfordshire on Thursday nights.

The Club is competing in the Oxfordshire AA Grand Prix Race Series and the first Mota-vation Race often forms part of that series too.

This year will be the 32nd running of Mota-vation. All the details will be posted below.

Chip timing will again be provided by Tempo Events.

Mota-vation 2019

Entries for this year’s Mota-vation race series are now open and full details are here. Please note that entries must be received by Monday 15th April.

The following is a summary of changes that will be implemented this year.

  1. Following last year’s enforced course change at Charlton, due to a road accident blocking the normal route, we will again run that simple two lap course, thus omitting the part of the course that turned right in the village of Oddington. This course has yet to be measured accurately, but is approximately 5.2 miles. We expect to run a single race but, if numbers and/or conditions require a “thinner” field over the first mile, we reserve the right to have separate starts for men and ladies, with the ladies starting five minutes after the men.
  2. As the Marston Ferry Road ground is almost certainly not available to us with Oxford Harlequins RFC having moved out and temporary buildings for the Swan Academy being erected, Race 5 will be run off-road at Stratfield Brake, which is our “home” at the south end of Kidlington. We will use both grass pitches and paths off the playing fields, with a two lap course that will be approximately four miles in length (but not certified). Stratfield Brake has a large pavilion with bar and changing rooms, so is a particularly suitable venue for the final race and for prizegiving. Running entirely off road, too, means that we need be less concerned about failing light if the weather is bad. There is limited parking at Stratfield Brake itself, and runners will be banned from parking in the slip road nearby, but the Water Eaton Park & Ride is only a ten minute walk/five minute jog away (current fee £2).
  3. As announced at the end of the last series, both men’s and ladies’ teams will comprise six runners (no change for men, but up from three for ladies). To compensate for smaller clubs, the “dummy place rule” will be relaxed to permit up to two dummy places for A teams in any race (dropping the maximum of two races).

Otherwise all will be the same as in the past. Dates and start times are:
